Liverpool v Manchester United: Mikael Silvestre expecting Premier League thriller at Anfield

Mikael Silvestre sees plenty of goals in Saturday’s crunch tie between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield.

Jose Mourinho’s side have been prolific in the Premier League this season, scoring 21 goals in their opening seven games, and currently sit second.

United were criticised for their defensive approach to last season’s fixture on Merseyside, which ended goalless, but Silvestre expects it to be a different story this time around.

Speaking to Alan Brazil and Ray Wilkins on the Sports Breakfast, the former United defender said: “The goals are flowing, so it looks like the team balance and confidence is better than last season.

“We could maybe see a United side more open and willing to score goals at Anfield than last season.”

He continued: „If the race is tight with City, you can’t afford to lose points.“

Jurgen Klopp’s men have suffered a difficult start to the season and defeat would see them drop ten points behind United.

But Silvestre does not expect the Anfield side to change their attacking approach.

He added: “I don’t see them [Liverpool] parking the bus or trying to avoid defeat at home with the fans behind them.

“They’re going to play the same style and go for the three points, so I see goals in this game.

“There is just a lot at stake. It’s pride and you need to show that you are up to the task.”
